Hindu Heritage Month Begins with a Flourish

Proudly announcing and date is November 1, 2024, Ottawa – The event was a historic, proud moment to declare that the flag of the Hindu religion, hoisted up with the sacred symbol ‘Aum’, was waved to mark the start of Hindu Heritage Month. Significantly, in an endeavour to respect their culture and heritage, everyone keeps going. The same thing happens while growing up and through tremendous contributions by the Hindu community to Canadian society.

This year’s flag-raising ceremony is of utmost importance and is somehow reflective of views that were espoused during the inaugural event that was held way back in 2022.

A new chapter has begun for Hindus living in Canada of diversification and the diverse tapestry of cultures enhancing its fabric. However, with the flourishing of the Hindu community comes the issue of better representation within the political arena. Since Hindus do contribute significantly in many sectors, their participation in Canadian politics cannot be representative of the victories they have achieved and the influence shown. It is an invitation to many in the community to live the democratic process, advocate for issues that matter, and continue the process of building bridges with other communities.

The Hindus in Canada embody intellectual scholarship and professional excellence. They are a voice of social good because they make excellent contributions to various sectors and industries of the Canadian economy. Despite a very high rate of success, they are grossly underrepresented in the world of politics.

With the initiation of Hindu Heritage Month, it is calling out to the community to indulge in multiple kinds of activity. Participation in elections, lobbying for policies in tune with value, and running public offices will make the Hindu’s voice louder and help forge Canada’s future.

Let us seize the moment to commemorate heritage, celebrate what one can be, and push for more power in the halls of Hindu Heritage Month.
