India, Canada share vision for peaceful, stable Indo-Pacific region
India and Canada have shared a vision for a peaceful and stable Indo-Pacific region, according to a joint statement issued by the two countries in February 2021. The statement was issued after a virtual meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
The Indo-Pacific region is of strategic importance, as it encompasses some of the world’s most important trade routes and includes several major powers, including India, China, and the United States. India and Canada share a common interest in promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
The joint statement highlighted the importance of respecting international law and the peaceful resolution of disputes, as well as promoting freedom of navigation and overflight in the region. It also emphasized the need for regional cooperation in areas such as maritime security, counter-terrorism, and disaster response.
