India is about to overtake China as the world’s biggest population

India is poised to overtake China as the world’s most populous country in the near future, according to projections from the United Nations. The latest estimates suggest that India’s population will surpass China’s by 2027, with India’s population projected to reach 1.7 billion by 2050, while China’s is expected to decline to 1.4 billion.

This trend is largely due to India’s high birth rate, which is estimated to be around 2.2 children per woman, compared to China’s rate of 1.6 children per woman. India’s population is also growing at a faster rate than China’s, with an annual increase of around 1.1% compared to China’s rate of 0.5%.

The implications of India becoming the world’s most populous country are significant. India already faces numerous challenges in terms of infrastructure, healthcare, education, and environmental sustainability, and a rapidly growing population will only exacerbate these issues. India’s government will need to take measures to ensure that its population growth is sustainable and that the country’s resources are able to meet the needs of its citizens.
