The General Elections 2024 in India Are Scheduled to Begin in the Month of April and Will Conclude With the Counting of Votes in June.

On March 16, the chief election commissioner on India, Rajib Kumar in a news conference in New Delhi announced the dates scheduled for the Lok Sabha polls starting from April 19 and continuing for six marathon weeks in seven different dates until June 1.  This 18th general election of India, the world’s largest democratic and electoral exercise, will be held in 7 phases to decide the fates of all contestants and elect 543 Lok Sabha members from them to send them to Lok Sabha. The vote counting date and the poll panel announcement date are June 4. Only two days later from the announcement of the name of the newly appointed chief election commissioner of India, the Lok Sabha election date came.

Over 970 million voters will cast their votes to elect 543 Lok Sabha members. The number of 970 million is greater than the entire population of the US and Russia and the European Union together.

After declaring the voting dates, the chief election commissioner promised- their duty to ensure a free and fair election to establish the largest democracy in the world. He added that this is the largest-ever democratic election in the world, exceeding the record of the 2019 general elections. According to him, this is the longest duration general election in the country to continue for a long span of 44 days total (excluding the date of the first general election).

The acting Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi is contesting from the Varanasi constituency (seat) and expecting to be the third time prime minister of India.  The present prime minister has set a target for his party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to win 400-plus seats for the NDA (National Democratic Alliance), including 370 seats for BJP.
