Kolkata Knight Riders made a clean sweep of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, topping the group stage of the league of 10 teams. Beating SunRisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets in a lop-sided final match at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, KKR reached their target in just 10.3 overs to bag the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Chasing a low target of only 114 runs, the lowest score in an IPL final, KKR reached their targeted score of 114 only at 10.3 overs and lifted their third IPL (Indian Premier League) title with a ravishing victory over Hyderabad. Thanks to Venkatesh Iyer for his unbeaten 52 (not out) only from 26 balls with four boundaries and three over boundaries. Moreover, Rahmanullah Gurbaz (39) empowered KKR to romp home only in 10.3 overs and a sea of purple jerseys waved to greet him as a hero.
The captain of the Hyderabad team Patrick James Cummins won the toss and elected to bat first, expecting to set a huge target for KKR. However, the decision started backfiring as KKR’s bowlers began doing extremely well under the guidance of Mitchell Starc who delivered a devastating opening spell. With the fifth ball of his first over, he bowled Abhishek Sharma, one of the opening batsmen of SRH. This was the turning point of the final match and KKR did not need to look back since then. Mitchell Starc became the player of the match.
